# New language name for Move

## Ask

We are kindly requesting the addition of a new programming language name to
describe Move.  The Move smart contract programming language is described
in https://github.com/move-language/move.

## Background

Move is a programming language for writing safe smart contracts originally
developed at Facebook to power the Diem (fka Libra) blockchain. Move is
designed to be a platform-agnostic language to enable common libraries,
tooling, and developer communities across diverse blockchains with vastly
different data and execution models. Move is used by multiple blockchains,
including Aptos, Sui, and is planned to be supported also for Solana via
LLVM
